From the Flood to a New Beginning: The Bayede! Story Continues_2026
Sometimes a new beginning comes only after an ending we never expected.
Recently, Bayede! Royal Signature Wines & Spirits faced one of the most difficult moments in our journey when severe flooding destroyed all our bottled wine stock. Bottles that represented months of production, investment and hard work were damaged beyond recovery.
For a business such as ours, the loss was not simply about wine. Behind every Bayede! bottle are people, families, partnerships and livelihoods. The flood affected our stock and our cash flow, but it could not destroy what Bayede! has always represented:
People. Land. Legacy.
We chose to start again
There was no quick solution.
We had to work through the damage, reorganise production and secure new bottling opportunities during an already busy production schedule. It required patience, determination and the support of the people who believe in Bayede!.
Bottle by bottle, we began rebuilding.
Today, we are deeply grateful to announce that Bayede! wines have been reproduced and are once again ready for sale.
Our new production represents far more than replacing what was lost. It represents a new start, renewed hope and the resilience to continue building the Bayede! legacy.
Our beading ladies are rebuilding with us
There is another very special part of the Bayede! story that is also starting again.
For many years, the beautiful hand-beaded details associated with Bayede! have represented something much bigger than decoration. They represent the hands, creativity and craftsmanship of the women who make them.
Following the flood and the restart of production, our beading ladies have been hard at work creating new beaded bracelets and rings.
Every bead is placed by hand. Every bracelet and ring takes time, concentration and skill to create. Their work reminds us that rebuilding does not happen all at once. It happens one small piece at a time.
One bead. One bottle. One opportunity. One new beginning.
Their contribution remains an important part of the human story behind Bayede! — a story of empowerment, dignity, craftsmanship and creating opportunities through South African products.
From loss comes hope
When we looked at the bottles covered in mud after the flood, it was difficult to imagine starting again.
But we did.
The damaged bottles will always be part of our story. They remind us how quickly circumstances can change, but they also remind us of something much more powerful: what is lost does not have to determine what comes next.
Today, there are new bottles standing where damaged ones once stood. New wine has been produced. New beaded creations are being made. Orders can be placed again.
And most importantly, there is hope.
